Wagga Wagga PCYC

Updated December 2022

PROJECT COMPLETE! The new Wagga Wagga PCYC building on Fitzhardinge Street was opened in 2022!

The $23 million PCYC Wagga multi-purpose complex on Fitzhardinge Street was officially opened in November 2022! The original vision for the new centre was established in 2010, with plans being completed in 2014 and construction beginning in 2021. The result is a start-of-the-art facility featuring a stadium, after-school care, conference area, office centre, gym, multi-purpose hall, a public cafe, and studio spaces for boxing, dancing, martial arts, and yoga.

All three tiers of government played significant roles in funding the facility. The Federal Government provided $10M from the Community Development Grants program to complement $10M contributed by the NSW State Government and $3M from the Wagga Wagga City Council.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the building of the facility which will benefit the Wagga Wagga community for generations to come.

PCYC Sod Turning Ceremony held in November 2021.

Hopefully this development will add further impetus to gaining government support and funding for Wagga Wagga City Council’s proposed $65M Bolton Park Redevelopment project adjoining the PCYC development. The Wagga Wagga City Council Bolton Park Master Plan redevelopment considers integration with the proposed PCYC development allowing for greater user accessibility.

Funding

NSW State Government $10m

Background

The current Wagga Wagga PCYC in Gurwood Street is aged, in a poor location and constrained by inadequate space and facilities. As a result, the PCYC are unable to provide the full suite of services required to meet the level of demand and population density in Wagga Wagga and the broader region.

The PCYC propose to develop a new, purpose built facility in central Wagga Wagga to service a regional population and deliver socially beneficial outcomes in the short and long term. The project has development approval and is currently seeking financial support from all levels of Government.

Key Stakeholders:

PCYC NSW
Wagga Wagga City Council
NSW Government
Committee 4 Wagga

Recommendation:

Encourage all levels of Government to consider financial support for the development of a PCYC facility in central Wagga Wagga.
